
FAAWO will provide local and state resources to assist with shelter response plans, emergency contacts, emergency requests and coordination of offered training for disaster response.
- Support communities in the disaster lifecycle, as defined by FEMA, involving companion animals.
- Review recommended disaster response plans, best practices, and local support opportunities.
- Facilitate guidance, and suggestions to strengthen current plans.
- Identify areas of opportunity, strengths, threats, and weaknesses.
- Create, sustain, and strengthen relationships to support all levels of prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery.
- Establish relationships through outreach and education with local and state government, public and private animal shelter organizations, the general public, and more.
- Develop and maintain logistical and response capabilities through organizational networking and standardized procedures for training, mobilization, response, and transport.
- Generate a network of supplies and equipment necessary to assist with preventative maintenance, inventory, exercise, procurement, and replacement for disaster response.
- Incorporate principles of ICS and NIMS in all phases of the disaster life cycle so there is unity and cohesion within the organization, allowing for seamless transitions into any event.
- Promote disaster resiliency in communities through training and networking at the local, regional/state, and national levels.
- Access training and certification of Awareness and Operations Level training for disaster animal sheltering related to companion animals.
- Utilize resources to ensure the continuity of education, training, and result oriented response to any event or disaster at any level.
- Partner with other agencies and organizations to facilitate a uniform approach to disaster response before the disaster, versus during or after.
